The rain won this round and I got no beach time this weekend. I did, however, finish those silly monkey paintings I started a thousand years ago.
Also, here is a random doodle.

I’m working on my new decorative painting project. The subject matter is based on a direct request from Shad, who demonstrated the poses that he would like the monkey’s to be in.
Mind you, this is still a work in progress. I will try my best to make these a masterpiece.
I bought 3 acrylic paints that were on sale for $0.79 each and a paintbrush for $1.66. My current investment in this project is $4.03 plus tax.
It’s not too exciting yet, but I want to show lots of progress shots… I feel like it will be cool. Last update here.
These were the only colors available for $0.79, but I think it worked out okay so far.
I took another stab at digital skin. I don’t think it turned out as well as my first attempt, which could mean that the the first effort was dumb luck, that I need more practice, or both. Anyway, I think I’ll try a red one next and then try to refine and develop them as a set.
My friend, Julie posted a link to advice on painting digital skin from one of the best and most well known illustrators today, Serge Birault. It inspired me to practice my own digital skin painting technique.
While I read Serge’s advice, I only followed part of it, since I really think I just need to practice before I start implementing specific suggestions. However, I did try to use more blue and green- I actually started with a solid green layer on the face. Also, while I didn’t use his suggested ‘dry brush’ for texture (I only used one brush throughout the sketch), I did make an effort to make smaller strokes to develop a more refined pattern with more color variation than I normally go for. I think I will implement more of his techniques next time.
Critique and suggestions are welcome!
I mentioned that we were civilized a while back…. no more eating on the floor for these cats!
I forgot to mention that we have crossed the line into fancy territory. First of all, we bought a rug and I stained our dining table…
We also got matching rugs for the office…
And here is an update on my fine art project…
